How dental implant treatment works
01
Free consultation and CBCT scan
We examine your teeth and gums, review your medical and dental history, and take a 3D CBCT scan of your jaw.
This helps Dr. McBride determine:
- Whether you are a candidate for dental implants
- Whether you have enough bone to support an implant
- Whether an extraction or bone graft may be needed
- Which implant option may work best for you
- Your estimated treatment cost and timeline
There is no obligation to begin treatment.
02
Dental implant placement
Dr. McBride places the titanium implant post in the jawbone using local anesthesia. Oral sedation may also be available for patients who need additional help relaxing.
When appropriate, an implant may be placed during the same appointment as a tooth extraction.
03
Healing and integration
Over the next several months, the implant gradually fuses with the surrounding jawbone. This healing process, called osseointegration, creates a stable foundation for the final restoration.
04
Final restoration
After the implant has healed, we attach a custom crown, bridge, or larger restoration. The restoration is designed to complement your surrounding teeth and restore function.
Are you a candidate for dental implants?
Many adults with one or more missing teeth may qualify for dental implants.
Good candidates generally have:
- Healthy gums
- Enough jawbone to support an implant
- Good overall health
- No uncontrolled condition that may interfere with healing
- A commitment to daily oral hygiene and regular dental visits
You may still have implant options if you have experienced bone loss. Dr. McBride will evaluate your jawbone with CBCT imaging and explain whether bone grafting or another preliminary procedure may be recommended.
Dental implants after tooth extraction
A dental implant can sometimes be placed immediately after a damaged tooth is removed. This is known as immediate implant placement.
Same-day extraction and implant placement may be possible when:
- The extraction site is free from significant infection
- There is enough healthy bone to support the implant
- The implant can be placed in a stable position
- Your overall health supports normal healing
If immediate placement is not recommended, the area may need time to heal before the implant is placed.
